Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce
We are delighted to announce that we have become members of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
New Premises
In May, Precision Pallets And Cases Ltd moves to new premises on Heywood Street in Waterhead.
A new beginning
Precision Pallets and Cases Ltd is formed and The Factory Reconstruction Co (Manchester) Ltd (or Factory Pallets & Cases Ltd as it was then trading) is acquired by way of a management buy-out by Richard Leach. Richard's skills are learned from a long career in customer service, marketing, international transport and sales. He is committed to providing customers with products which meet exacting specifications and requirements.
A local landmark
Having survived a recession, the company now employs around 60 people, many of whom have been around for 20 years or more. Their client base expands to include businesses from across the industrial landscape: from paper mills, large supermarkets and chemical processors to healthcare institutions. Many household names rely on the service provided by Tim and Bill Mansell.
Sustained Growth
The company begins to thrive under the Mansell brothers' stewardship. During the 1970s it is taken on board as an official supplier to the Ministry of Defence and goes on to provide pallets that move British Forces' supplies during the First Gulf War.
A new generation
After the death of their father in 1963, Tim and Bill took over the business as a partnership. Mass-produced products were beginning to swamp the market, pushing bespoke joinery aside. The brothers made the decision to move more towards building pallets for industry.
A family business
In 1950, W H Mansell's two sons, Tim and Bill, were apprenticed into the joinery trade and joined their father in the family business.
A new home in Oldham
After setting up a small joinery workshop in Sale - his hometown - Mansell moved to Oldham in 1944. He had now begun to make packing cases.
Founded
Precision Pallets And Cases Ltd can trace its origins back to 1941, with the formation of The Factory Reconstruction Company (Manchester) Ltd.
W H Mansell's hearing difficulties meant he could not be called up to the services, so he decided to form a company to help rebuild factories damaged by enemy bombs during the Second World War.
